We've certainly had very limited rainfall in my hometown this year. I keep an eye on the weather and have noticed no more than 7 days of rain since the beginning of the year.

We didn't have any thunderstorms either - unless there was one for the one week of this year that I've not been here... But the news article confirmed my curiosity - there has been a significant lack of rainy weather, and unless it picks up this is going to put strains on the water supply into early next year.

So where did all the rain go?

There have been some fairly freak weather incidents around the world this year. Off the top of my head I can recall the hurricane in New York, the recent floods in that city whose name I can't remember - and perhaps we can even include the Japanese tsunami (triggered by an earthquake). On top of that we also have El Hierro's volcano rumbling steadily at the end of the year, with claims it is forming a new Canary Island!

The Canary Islands and their volcanoes play a significant role in disaster predictions for the future. I enjoyed reading the one about a megatsunami that would apparently destroy the East American seaboard.

That said - there is no evidence as far as I'm concerned to say these things are "happening more often". I think myself and others are just reading about them more often, there are more reports on them and the Twitter age means we know about any fairly small event very quickly and from multiple sources.

So yeah, weather... Rain... We need some :) Obviously it's evaporated here and gone and been a freak event elsewhere in the world this year. Glad to know Oxfordshire could help on that one.

I am phasing in and out of creativity. My game is being tested. It's a phase I definitely missed out on with my last game (testicle) that I finished in April this year. There was no testing on that one but I can't remember if it was my incompetence or just no interest in beta-testing it.

During the testing stage - error hunting aside, I think it's just great to get some feedback prior to release to help you on your way. It's a key bit of game making motivation, and it can trigger new lines of conversation in your mind - ideas which you may have missed completely because you were never seeing your game from that angle before. Here's the trailer:

I want to make a short Xmas movie. But I am too busy getting AdventureX prepped and done, Passage of Saints and my own game above finished. And doing whatever I can on BJ:MD to finish it. I am pushing this old computer to its limits. So I'm posting this now before it crashes (which it does every 56 mins).

Thanks for reading, take care, and here's to some snow this year!

do not disturb

The last few days have been manic. The idea was to have 11-11-11 (new game by me) ready for the 11th Nov. Sadly that wasn't possible, despite a 30 hour stint (with a funeral in the middle) I still had some way to go. And now people are pissed off cos I'm not emailing them back because I'm too busy working on this!! But it will be ready by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, just a few more puzzles to make, and then of course the "final stages" of getting everything nice and trimmed - which ultimately takes ages in itself.

Dualnames has been hard at work on Passage of Saints (our Indy xmas game) and along with miez has made some excellent progress. Everything is looking good there for a December release. AdventureX is still umm arr as not many people have bought tickets.

That's about it. I have work to do. Don't forget to visit the AGS blog (ags-ssh.blogspot.com) to read the old ezines I used to make with Yahtzee and other AGS folks. For me at least, it's fun to step back into history and see what was going on back then :)

Thanks for reading! Now go away. I don't need disturbing :P

un-convention-al

Well AdventureX is gearing up to be pretty cool now - lots of AGS folks have kindly said I can show their games at it, many of them have never been seen/played which is very exciting! Also glad that C. Bateman and A. Beckett are still happy to give a little talk about making games :)

Also securing a bit of a deal with Lace Mamba Global who will hopefully supply a few demonstration copies of games and prizes so that people can take away some of their latest published titles. No word from TellTale Games yet though.

And, a few tickets have sold. I've also noticed a few other people kind of pre-empting their attendance to the event, so to those people I say - get a ticket! I will make a decision around the 1st Dec whether it will officially go ahead or not. If I can't cover the venue hire, or only five people have bought a ticket - it just won't be worth it. But if it does happen, it will most definitely be worth it!

I found a cheaper hotel - Ibis Hotel in Reading, 2 mins from the station. So anyone coming and staying I would recommend that place, its 40 quid for 1 or 2 nights. You would however need to get a train to Didcot from Reading, but that's literally five pound single or ten pound return. And the offer is still open to my closer AGS friends to stay on a sofa at my flat...lol!

So exciting stuff... My game 11-11-11 is nowhere near being complete, for its deadline this Friday. But I will have it ready...fingers crossed. Actually I can't not have it ready, otherwise there's no point :P Work behind the scenes at FoY has picked up as Spanos comes on board to help code the Xmas mini-game. Poor Jan had a biking accident and is unable to code for a few weeks. We wish him a quick recovery. Miez continuing all the lovely background art for the full-game.

Oh and I am very soon going to get this device that will let me get Lost In Paradise off the HD I cannot put inside this computer. Yay!

I worked in a Chinese takeaway this weekend, and it was fun. Basically just grabbing the food orders and packaging them, with some nice people to work with. Also some funny co-incidental names that mean nothing to anyone else but me on the orders like "Bateman" (AdventureX) and "Sinclair" (BJ:MD) made me chuckle. Simple things!! It also meant I could eat pretty well and cheaply over the weekend which is great. This is not a permanent job though (maybe in the future?) so money is still very tight.

Sadly my grandpa died last week so I have a funeral to attend later this week, which will be sad. But I'm glad I had a nice dinner with him just a week before his death, and he certainly had a good life (and a long one). RIP Harry Carr

Other than that, not a lot. It's Sunday morning, I haven't been to bed yet - today I'm just going to slob out, do a bit of programming and watch a bit of TV. After a spliff and a sleep that is.

Ciao for now! :)

X marks teh spot

A small update. My main computer blew up last week which has left me on my reserve old IDE machine. Thank hellfully I backed up just about everything. So the BJ movie is safe, Lost in Paradise is safe as is my latest soundtrack. However it is more than likely going to cause a few problems in terms of editing the BJ movie, as the PC I'm on now struggles to run Notepad. Add to that a few busy weekends - so I would say a delay on the movie is inevitable. Which will surely annoy some people as I have been aiming for Halloween.

That said, and it was probably the fun of Mittens that made me do it, I've returned to trying to organise AdventureX, which is a kind of show and tell on a public scale for amateur adventure game developers and fans. I'll have the website online very soon. And I'm excited that a chap who designed Discworld Noir is coming to the event!!

I've just read a Czech review of my game Night of the Testicle - it made me chuckle! They gave it 60% which is very pleasing for such a time-waste of a game. The player rating of 18% is probably more accurate ;) But that along with other comments here and there have inspired me to get on with the final (body) part - Back to the Bollocks!!1

Misja has been posting updates to backgrounds he's working on in facebook for Fountain of Youth and the team are making sure our Xmas game Passage of Saints is ready in time for Christmas. Also - my team of Kinky Islanders are working hard on some amazing work. The assets are building, it's going to be a very sweet looking game.

I've recently finished a preliminary version soundtrack for Unga Needs Mumba which is a new AGS game in the works by Koodn. It appears he's had it in the works for quite some time now, it's a superb little adventure and I'm really pleased I was able to write some music for it. As I write this paragraph I've just had a PM from the man himself saying he's finished implementing the music, so I should have a preview tonight or tomorrow - woot! Work continues on my Living Nightmare: Freedom soundtrack. And as mentioned earlier Passage of Saints for which I wrote music for a year ago will hopefully be out this Xmas with that old but still unheard soundtrack. Once the game is out I'll also put up my ex-Primordia soundtrack here, but will wait til it's out as my soundtrack's track names may give away the story/puzzles.

So in the gaming world things are going nicely. Lost In Paradise the second version has been coming along well - I'm really pleased and actually quite happy it's gone a second time, it's given me a chance to re-work certain puzzles, knock out a few crappy camera angles and enhance animations and characters a bit more. Also been proof-reading a game called The Visitor which is a cool tale of an alien and I highly suggest checking it out when it comes out over at AGS in the next couple of weeks!

Got a couple of job applications on the go (online ones, that take ages to write) so I'm hoping I may have a career of some sort in the near future (and moneys!).. Other than that there's not much else to tell. I used Tesco online delivery for the first time, it's pretty damn cool :D Online grocery shopping can certainly be added to my list of random chores I like doing online.

That's all. Mittens is just around the corner so I've been working on Ben Jordan Must Die to give the folks a preview before its release around Halloween.

I recently added "A Christopher Jones Adventure" to the AGS DB which was a test game from many years ago - the first time I tinkered with including speech. It's barely worth the download but if you use AGS and you want a quick chuckle..

I also found out last night of someone that contributed some stuff to s7 website - drinks at the pub! He submitted some flash games a few years ago and I always assumed he was just some random guy from Lithuania or something...haha :D

That's all for now..

no-more-dia

sadly my involvement with Primordia has been terminated. Our new background artist for the game has a very impressive talent with retro point & click backgrounds - you will not be disappointed!

BUT NOW - TEH MAIN EVENT. MODS' TOP 10 APPS! I'm afraid this WILL lead to disappointment :P

At number 10: Sound Recorder (Win 98/XP)

Where would we be, or have been in the early millennium, if clicking a button to record your voice had not come any simpler? Gone are the days of classic sound recorder, which was in time replaced with some shit alternative with one button only, the record button. No sine waves, no simplicity - just shit. For that reason, original Sound Recorder is in my list of top 10 applications :D

For number 9 it's: Windows Media Player 6

Again it's a simple edition of a media player that was mandatory through the Windows 95 and 98 period, until the all new media player came out which just sucked balls. Alright, MPC6 didn't have a mixer, nor could you slow WMV files down to 50%. But there WAS a time when MPC6 found the needed codecs with ease, and it always loaded within 2 seconds of double clicking the shortcut, not 10, like all versions since.

At number 8: mIRC/MSChat

Basic chat applications don't come more basic than mIRC. It's quick, simple, free, easy, ASCII-y and useful. MSChat on the other hand added a whole new element - cartoon characters in a comic strip that looked weird. The days of what character was used for which chatter are long gone, but they were good days indeed.

So then my number screen 7: Pazera (Free) Conversion Tools

Whether you want to convert a wav to mp3 or flv to avi or any number of different settings, Paz tools remain my favourite. They're simple and quick - they don't look like some programs that spice up their interface to hide very crap functions - Paz tools do what they say on the tin and you know what you're getting when you use it. The conversion quality is brilliant, and I highly recommend them for anyone tackling multiple conversion tasks. Pazzzahhhhh!

Numero 6: Calculator (Windows)

Self explanatory. Without a calculator, my brain would need to resort to maths, so I'm glad it's always there, and functional. Nuff said!

Halfway through, my number 5: AVG Free Anti Virus

It's almost cool to have AVG Free Anti Virus, especially if you're a cheapskate bum like me! The term free-loader has never been so true with this software - the best of the best free anti virus, that uses technology you would usually pay a monthly fee for with Symnatec or Dr. Nortoid. Even McAffee have come back from the dead to plunder your cash for a service AVG can do just as well -- for free!

At lucky number 4: GetRight

The days of dial-up would never have worked out for many of us without an application like GetRight. Designed to resume downloads, it meant a feeling of safety when you knew connection problems would be a-foot. I still use it today, and I'm glad it still exists - in fairly simple form (it hasn't been Vista-ized yet). GetRight is really GoodMate and its ability to resume downloads is as amazing. In fact, it's like magic right in front of your eyes. Except when the server in question says NO, PISS OFF - you are NOT resuming that file!

So I reach my top 3. And speaking of number 3, its: Google Earth

It's a bloomin' map of the world that you can scale to about a hundred feet. Free information doesn't come any better than that. Everything it stands for is brilliant - that is our world, in an application. We can find anywhere, and street view will let us get a feel for a location - people also find oddities within the map which adds a new element. Live weather radar makes it a must for checking the immediate forecast, and renders weather reports on TV useless. All ship wrecks are listed, and so many other wonderful things...So much to explore. This is hands down one of my favorite applications of all time!

Number 2: Outlook Express

I don't know why, but without it, I just wouldn't exists as a modern man. Sure, it's not perfect. Sure, it's fucking annoying when you have to re-install Windows and all your emails & contacts have disappeared - but providing you've got the mail server, Outlook will be your friend in times of email need. Outlook has seen me through many correspondences, from game deals, to famous people, to getting myself fired, to friends, to appointments, to worldly issues... All manner of things pass in and out of Outlook, so I can't really be anything other than thankful for that :)

And finally, TEH NUMBER 1 APPLICATION IS....... NOTEPAD!

Notepad is the unsung hero of applications in my opinion. It's the one place you can write and write and never worry about file size. It's a copy and paste haven for serialz, draft letters and game designs. Notepad is often the middleman in my life. Something I will have written in a notebook usually gets transferred into the textual black and white goodness of Notepad, before becoming the product of whatever the idea that is written, is. Wordpad never caught on, and people produced only shit documents in it. MS Word didn't even come with Windows unless you bought a bundle. But Notepad has been there, through and through, since Windows 3.1 - and has never changed. Simplicity to write and re-arrange - here's to you, Notepad :)

And that's it. The important part was about Kinky Island :P

Breathe

Had a bit of a breather this month, in terms of games. It would appear NOTT was received well, although the comments have been far and few I can happily report Steve Brown from Adventure Gamers wrote "Screen 7 have provided a truly strange experience in their latest offering." whilst Andrew MacCormack from the AGS community defines it as a "scrotal masterpiece" :D They are right, it is both strange and scrotal.

The soundtrack is available, for a dollar, dollar, cos dollar's what I need. See here. I'm having some FTP problems preventing me from updating any websites til the turn of next month, (or ditching my current ISP and joining another one) but that's just as well - like I said, it's breather month. The last 4 months were pretty intense game making times :D

However - things have not suffered in the least. Luckily, I've been able to concentrate on Ben Jordan 2 movie. And in the last month we've shot some great chase sequences locally. A special preview of an early draft scene in the movie, which happens away from the action in Italy can be watched here!

With literally weeks before Mittens begins, the time from now til then is going to be filled with all the final scenes needed to complete the 70 minute movie. I'll be taking it in draft form to Mittens and hopefully having the characters record various dubs to fill the awful gaps in sound produced by me using Long Play recording on camera at the time, (I was warned!). I also have to ask Grundy to make a special "in-game sequence" for the movie. He's also agreed to direct a BJ short at Mittens...maybe...

May not have been using AGS recently, but I've begun patching up the holes in design for Fountain of Youth and making sure the story is entirely complete. I know work continues on the game itself, but that's not something I see much of personally right now with my limited internet set up, but Paul is happily coordinating the development and utilizing the other team members very well, giving me time to focus on the story & design, and puzzles...uh oh! ;) Use Indy with Toilet.

Lots of exciting stuff, and production is generally steady. We realized 200 rooms was over ambitious, but Misja has been keen to push for 150. Who knows :) Thanks to everyone who's recently donated and continued to support the project! It was also great to get some feedback on Jan's arcade fighter - with one AGS member called Progz saying "What ze herr Hitler is thiz! Zis is ze stupid!" or something. :P

After a several month dry spell - I finally saw the latest working version of Primordia and have been able to write a couple of brand new tracks, including my first ever 10 minute background piece. Considering all the music I've done in the last two years has pretty much been through inspiration from working on Primordia, it's great to get back into the project that's been a real eye-opener in music making for me.

The game itself looks great - and much more polished than ever. The music works and I'm thankful to the team for being supportive about it! Be sure to try "Beacon" by Pinback over at AGS to get a feel for the style up-coming in Primordia. I also got the OLD video back online on my alternative youtube account. Search "primordia game" on youtube.

Well - that's all the stuff that matters in the internet world. In the real world, things haven't been quite as perky. Oddly, that old game has an entry over at Adventure Gamers, (added by Berian probably!!)...

I guess it was originally simply to help me get back into the spirit of AGS-ing after problems during 2010 with Lost in Paradise. It's become more of a "10 year anniversary" thingy for me now though. Still, luckily both games are on the go. So to tempt your nether regions, here's what the press are saying about... NIGHT OF THE TESTICLE ..!!! ?

What's more is that it's nearly finished! I've been working on it non-stop for the past week. Just a couple more puzzles to finish off. Yes, yes, the graphics are poop and the puzzles are nothing to shout about. But there is 30 minutes of original MIDI music, for some unknown reason. Anyway, this is a little side project...

Other areas of gaming have been quieter since my last post. People are falling off the edge of the Earth, so most projects beside Testicle and Paradise are again having a "hold" period.

I think I mentioned previously about a new team which consists of people I live in the same town as, 7 of us, and the adventure we're working on at the moment is called "Recall". It's just a short one about a robot thing, but thankfully over the past week some of the materials have come together, including music and original sound effects. We're just waiting on some backgrounds, and then I can start building it :)

Not sure there's much else to say really! BJ:MD needs my attention and love for the next few months really.

Finally, I'm back on Facebook - the break was good. I'd recommend it, and in time, I will be taking another one. Becoming "disconnected" from the central hub that is Facebook felt very refreshing, and I could actually go out and be a twat without having to deal with the consequences online later those evenings :P Thanks for reading!

Little things

Well as always there's enough stuff to blog about but not actually any massive progress in my life. So I thank the technological age and hope it's proud to be able to support my thoughts and scribblings whilst I remain scum of the earth.

Firstly - I've had one small UFO encounter recently but it was so brief I'm most likely to discount it over the course of my interest on the subject. It may not have been real but none the less I'm still marking it as a possible occasion. Very fast, briefly de-cloaking (or briefly underlit by the city) ship much like this one. So I'd like to think that if there can be such massive co-incidences in day to day life that perhaps I did catch a glimpse of that awesome youtube UFO then everything is right ;) The only other mystery is how did I become my own follower of my blog. I'm confused. More confused about that than alien life TBH.

HOWEVER. My main YouTube account is banned because I pissed off 20th Century Fox. I guess I knew it would happen sooner or later, but after a pretty positive 6 year run on YouTube it's a bit of a blow. I'd just - literally hours before my perma-ban - reached my 2 millionth video view. So I'm considering it an achievement even if it does mean I can never upload to YouTube again.

People say "sign up again" but it's not as simple as that any more. It's all linked to Google, and I'm a good-oogle boy, I had everything linked. So I'm pretty screwed in terms of YouTube, indefinitely. That means the only way to see some videos I've made is via the Screen7 website and film > phat section. Sorry about that.

The Ben Jordan 2 movie continues to shape up, but still needs love and devotion. I'm organizing some epic scenes and I won't let it be released without them. Watch this space. The new deadline for me is Mittens 2011, which I want to stick to.

With games, I've tried to blag some old, well known developers into thinking up new stories for AGS games. And I've already had some replies from David Gray and John Passfield. So over the course of the year some exciting new projects may take shape. Naturally the AGS awards are just round the corner, and as if by magic there's a Screen7 game in the DEMO section as per usual, so do try out Indy and the Crystal Curs0ids if you get a chance :)

Music has fallen a bit silent lately cos of debt and stuff. Some software I've been using trial period is out and I can't afford it right now, but I've made some new stuff for the up-coming FoY mini-game and a new game by Dom Pompo. I'm yet to receive a new build of Primordia but I'm looking forward to it, and also the deal that's going down.

I'm still off Facebook and it's been a good time with noticeable differences, and also something a little more "human" in my mind. I should be able to go back to it fairly soon with a better attitude towards it. I miss not having the convinience of being able to quickly blip a message to someone, but the confidence of knowing I can get in touch with them by any other means and have their respect is - well, somewhat more compelling.

From here then, who knows. More filming to do ASAP, Mittens in the midst. Website bill and no money. Such is life! Thanks for reading :)

game a sutra

Just popping by with a little news :) 2011 is going to be a busy time for me in terms of soundtracks. With the possibility of one game going commercial under a well known adventure studio it's going to be a challenging time for me in terms of producing something really acceptable by today's standards.

Three other games are also on my schedule for some music so I'm happy to be busy with those game related projects. I've finally started hitting the AGS code again with new enthusiasm and have a couple of short game projects in the works as we speak, one being a crap maze game called Mr. Maze and also a point & click adventure mini-crap-series :p Anyway the main point is my motivation is in a good place right now.

And because of that I've also been out filming more for the Ben Jordan sequel lately, with some epic new scenes shot in central Oxford. Well, by epic I mean epic in terms of what we can legally film on the cuff in a few hours ;)

I've also left Facebook for a while as a social science experiment. I'll be testing whether my spam email decreases, whether my knowledge of what all my friends are up to is really necessary for my already over-flowing brain, how easy it is to continue to communicate with good friends & associates without FB, whether my concentration improves or gets worse without it, etc. I can still be contacted easily over email and mobile/texts.

So it's a different, new but exciting time for me in the gaming world. Outside of that things are mellow and typical. I've pissed people off. Still, this year could have quite an impact on my future, providing I play my cards right. Thanks for taking a look :)

Peace!

foy-king amazing!

Fountain of Youth is on the front of PC Gamer, under a headline about Black Ops, under one about Kinect and ABOVE a headline about Bad Company 3. I recently found that other projects I had been working on (for other people) had bit the dust over the summer, so it doesn't seem to be an unusual occurrence. Therefore it's sad that M$ and other OS companies don't consider the importance of keeping data when it comes to virus crashes and so forth, and that people are still unfortunately forced towards paying for crap to try and prevent it...about as well as the millennium bug.

That said the Primordia soundtrack is going well, and though the game may not be out til 2011, I believe it will be my pride of 2010 in terms of soundtrack composition.

Peace all

Today I aers talk about Ben Jordan 2

The movie sequel began production in August 2010 and since the shoot we did in Italy I've been editing the footage and last night watched it on a wide-screen telly - and it really is MOVIE this time :D With just 25 minutes more footage to film this will seriously be the most epic bigphat films film to date :) Watch this space.

Or the teaser! nyeehh!

What a loss

Hello folk. Sadly this blog I am not as chirpy or happy as my others because something drastic happened to my hard drive and re-installing Vista wiped it all. So in that process I lost all my game files for Lost in paradise and day by day I'm remembering more about what I had on that HD. A couple of days ago I realised it was also the drive I stored all my MIDI creations and films I've shot. I've never been one to back up because I've never known a re-install of Windows to erase an entire HD, so I have no idea why it happened now - it's not like I selected any options to format it.

This has left me depressed and unsure how to continue. Years of work is un-done. When I wake up I am still getting the buzz to work on my game - but it's gone - and it puts me down. The 60 minutes of music I wrote for it is gone and I'll never be able to rework it. This has left me in a very unsure position now as to my game making future.

I went to Mittens which was excellent fun and we worked on a new Ben Jordan movie which took my mind off these things, and don't get me wrong - I love it. But besides editing that, I'm almost afraid to use a PC now for fear it will just destroy my livelihood again.

People have been most kind and have sent me recovery programs that scan the HD, and as it happened a few days before Mittens I tried to recover what I could and got many of the games WMV animation files back. But after Mittens I ran another scan and nothing could be found on the HD. It seemed time alone erased the remainder of stuff, and that pisses me off, cos I could have rescued the soundtrack too.

So now I don't really know what to do. Do I restart the project, do I start a new one. Do I just pack game-making in for a while cos it's been nothing but fraught & un-successful for me since I began, (except for making music for people I suppose). I don't know. It's a major knock and I know others have suffered HD failure and lost their stuff and have been kind enough to give me advice and stuff...but I don't know. It's hard if not impossible to talk about this in the real world - normal people can understand losing their pictures and downloaded MP3's, but losing an entire legacy of your creations is something else, and hundreds of hours of rendering, composing, programming, editing....bleh.

We'll see what happens next, hopefully something good because 2010 has been an ultra shit year for me.

Peace

World Cap

Just days away from the final now and I have drunk so much Budweiser and eaten so many meals I am officially an alcoholic and fat english bastad right now. But I ended up winning a Budweiser promotion and get 5 bottles of Bud and a meal every day of the world cup - starting Friday...come on England!! I expect to be thoroughly pissed & have liver problems by July! I doubt I'll ever win FREE BEER again in my life --- but once is AMAZING enough :D

I now have a car (a lovely little Rover Metro) and went to Silbury Hill for the first time to see a crop circle for the first time also with my friend Joe. It was interesting to see how the corn is "bent" and somewhat fused at the nodes but not broken. Aliens? Who knows. Went to a local pub and had a chat with a fella that believes it's all people with boards. But his mate wasn't so sure...

Car means I can start filming again, but days after I got it and was going to get started on a new UFO Watch UK, my camcorder broke :( Looks like I'll have to buy another one off ebay if I'm to do that and BJ2...

In the gaming world I've mostly been concentrating on music and finished a soundtrack for Living Nightmare 2 which seems to have gone down pretty well! Also been working as ever on Lost In Paradise, the outro sequence is keeping me nicely frustrated! My facebook countdown app has a month more time alloted to get it finished. Whether my brain app will allow that is another matter!

Other than that not much else to report. Everyone's off to Download this weekend to metal it up, and I'm still struggling to get money together for Mittens Italia...but the World Cup is right on our doorstep now, so it's exciting times :D

Bye!

Volcano disrupts Europe

Just enjoying a rare occasion such as this today - all flights grounded across the UK and much of Europe as an ash cloud from a volcano in Iceland passes over. Just a massive outro animation to make and then some touch-ups. Screw the bad art near the beginning. Walkable areas and walk-behinds are no fun to create manually, well, not twice. Because it also means reprogramming character's beginning X & Y co-ordinates in about 40 rooms, and I'd rather not :P

All I really need now is Luke Rideout to help me by making an awesome GUI like he has for the (on-hold) Kinky Island game and everything will be done and perfect...ish! Oh, and the soundtrack has reached 60 minutes and over 70 tracks...the most I've ever done...*phew*

I'm taking part in a couple of other projects musically, several tracks for "No One Likes You" and also now some tracks for the "Living Nightmare" sequel.

Also some discussion, but not much, has happened on Nelly 2 and my possible involvement, but more so the games creator Alasdair Beckett has helped find a possible location for AdventureX (which failed for a second time earlier this year). It's a spooky crypt near Holborn in London. I'm going to try and get it organised for SATURDAY 30th OCTOBER or the Saturday before that.

Being a one day event will mean I can drop the price dramatically, so it'll be £10 to visit and meet/listen to Mr Boakes, Mr Cecil and other well known game developers.

Watch this space :)

Other than that, not much else on the horizon... I'm chatting with a movie studio about working on a fan-game I had planned back in 2003 - we'll see how that goes. They were originally enthusiastic and if that is still the case, I'll start production later this year. Working title: Beneath Perfection. Do some research and you may find said studio and related movies :)

I'm also working on a local, for fun movie with my friends based on Yahtzee's Lunchtime of the Damned (the first Reality On The Norm game). It'll use some of the character names and some of their traits, but is far more about a zombie outbreak rather than the place "Reality". More on this soon :)

And script writing & ideas discussion for Ben Jordan movie 2 are still in full-swing, with a draft script about a third complete, though it's very subject to change, right up until the moment we film it... No official title for the movie yet, though.

So stuff is happening, slowly but surely - and although I'd rather be getting laid, it seems there is still a never ending line of things to do with games and movies to be done, which is always good! Thanks for reading, enjoy your Easter :)

Men of mystery

Great news for fans of the first Ben Jordan movie "Le Chateau Macabre", a sequel is in pre-production and once again the game series creator Francisco Gonzalez is on board to play the lead role! Screen7 team up with Grundislav Games again & we hope to film it at Mittens in Italy, summer 2010. There will of course be many appearances from other AGS folk. Firstly there's the Tales of Monkey Island fan-game parody thingy which I created music for, pretty hastily, and never really finished! But it was on a tight deadline! By monkey_05_06 and artwork by Ben - nice to finally contribute to both their works!

Also, GreenBoy's new short comedy adventure Danny Dread is on Call which has a proper soundtrack by me! I love this little game, it's not too long but the puzzles are fun, the humour is witty and the animations are a very nice touch. Please check it oot :D

And also a demo of my very own game, Lost In Paradise which has effectively made the November - December 2009 my most productive AGS weeks ever! The game itself is progressing nicely. Lately I have been a bit slack on it though because of all these other mini-projects, so the original idea of having it done in 2009 is...very unlikely. But as the Complete-O-Meter on the s7 website says, it IS a good 50-60% complete :)

For Halloween, we also felt like making a little movie and so came up with a rather weird horror film called Bludgeoned To Death, available to watch for the 1st time in a higher quality....here!

And that's about it. I'm still skint, just got a comfy bed after using floors, couches and campervans for the last 18 months, so I am enjoying epic comfy sleep at the moment...Other than that, I still drink & smoke too much, but am quite content at the moment. Perhaps because I've been replaying Theme Hospital lately...Thanks for reading, now go do something more useful!1

Mods

I know what I smoked

Brand new History channel documentary "I Know What I Saw" by James Fox aired on Sunday 4th. Besides drinking, I've been busy trying to organise AdventureX the expo show for AGS developers and other peoples with some special guests. It's coming along well, I nearly have the website ready & thankfully some awesome special guests are set to speak, including Jonathan Boakes, Charles Cecil & hopefully Dave Gilbert :D

This is good news for adventure game fans like me. I've also been getting my teeth back into composing and hope to do some real soundtrack work next year. I've been playing San Andreas lately and it's given me a kick up the backside to work on a project I've had planned in full for about 6 years. I was going to get the game funded but the funder had to pull out as the funds would have paid for professional artists, so as that's not the case anymore I'm going to make it myself - even if the graphical standard will be somewhat By The Sword :P

I was actually surprised with what I managed to achieve in a day (see below), 3 of 7 islands in a game in 3D using Bryce. I'm keeping this game low key, it won't be announced anywhere else until it's complete. My 3D art is nothing to shout about, and the characters will be equally bad hehe but after thinking of some practical ways to make the best of Bryce3D I decided to go for it, and it's been fun - even though Bryce just gets slower, slower and slower with each new object :P

I'm going to Sonisphere in about 15 days, and have been trying to shoot a new comedy movie - but it's too epic in scale & I don't have the resources (or a car) for it at the moment, so I'm going to reserve my film-making energy for a short horror and of course, with any luck, a new Ben Jordan movie at Mittens 2010 ;)

Thanks for reading, enjoy your summer!

There's something in the mist...

..and it lept out and ate my sandwich..BASTARD!

So it's been a while since I bothered to blog, mostly because of problems in "waking life" as my dream book likes to refer to it. I also lost the internet for a good 3 or 4 weeks. Therefore my productivity on the whole had been reduced to 1%.

But hey, now I have my own place - it's pretty lush and I have the internet back. My head is still in several different places after living with my good friend & her kids, and effectively ripping myself away from the "family unit" we'd created. But I got to wish her all the best and her twins - I seriously enjoyed living with you for months and months on end! But whatever, you'll never read this :p

So what's on the cards now? Surely I haven't been completely dormant?

Well yes, I have. Sorry :P

I have mostly been working on getting the s7 store online, because it's time for me to make a little back from what I do - especially for now whilst I have all new bills to pay & stuff. The store is almost working, but there seems to be a problem with sending the customer back to a confirmed page. Gash.

KI has not been touched for a good month or 2 now, but my inspiration is coming back :) Mainly because I've been in the company of a girl I adore recently and I've been feeling loved up -- something I haven't felt for fucking ages! I even have a slight sense of hope & optomism about life now, which seriously, 3 weeks ago, I didn't.

There's nothing happening on the music front. I haven't had enough updates about Fallen Legend or Greenback to progress with them yet, so I guess I should get back in touch. There's still no word on Larry Vales, Fatman 2 or Nelly Cootalot 2 -- so all I can do is sit and wait. And I really haven't bothered to attatch myself to any new projects on the AGS website either. 09 doesn't really look like a comedy-game year, so I guess I should stick to KI for now :)

It's nice and sunny and now I'm getting motivated to make a movie...but...one step at a time. Thanks for reading, I'll see you again in about 4 months :P

Mod's mini movie review

Christmas time has been good this year, loads of fantastic specials and even some great movies on! Oh no wait, those were all DVD's. Still, I seem to have watched a shit load of stuff in the last few weeks, here's my review :)

MAN ON FIRE 4/5
Very compelling DENNNNZELLL movie. I couldn't wait to watch and see what Denzel was up to this time. He played a very convincing role, and Dakotta Fanning was surprisingly cute and surprisingly un-annoying in this movie. It took a while for the action to kick off but it was fantastic to watch. Walken was very good in this too, and what's more, I watched this straight after CLICK and had no idea Walken would be in it - so it was a pleasent surprise! Overall, a very compelling movie.

CLICK 5/5
Probably the best, fresh comedy I've watched for quite a few years. I want to suck the casting directors dick, because the cast in this movie is simply unbeatable. Adam Sandler plays an amazing role - his best since The Wedding Singer. The writing in the movie is BRILLIANT, had me laughing a lot. Christopher Walken is BLOODY BRILLIANT and both HE and SANDLER should do more movies like this... If you luuvv christopher walkens waaacky voyce, you'll frickin luff dis movie! The FONZ is in it and so is David Hasselhoff playing the perfect part for the Hoff - WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!!! The plot was great and it DIDN'T break down into mush at the end...GO WATCH THIS FILM NOW!!!

HANCOCK 3/5
This film started out great. Will Smith is great in this movie, seriously. But once you hit half way throgh the film, it get's boring. It's not a bad film, in fact - far from it, there's a lot of great moments. But the power struggle that begins half way through the movie should, in my opinion, never have happened. I was really interested in Hancock, and him getting over his problems. There's a great scene where he can finally say "Good job" to cops, and that provoked a really nice feeling inside. Then I was waiting for more like that, but the movie turned into something else - none of his original problems got their resolve and I just couldn't care for his relationship with super-woman. So, worth watching - the first half at least.

ROYLE FAMILY: XMAS SPECIAL 4/5
This was a great Christmas treat! THANK YOU!!!! I can't get enough of the Royle Family and I was excited about this episode for weeks. It certainly didn't dissapoint, but there seemed to be a few things missing, mostly Ralf Little - but so so. Not as hard hitting as the previous Christmas special but, I'm EXTREMELY glad they still went ahead and made another one. This made BBC viewing essential this year, which hasn't happened to me for quite a while!! All the usual characters played their roles extremely well, and Denise looked hot in her apron! Hehe

WALLACE & GROMIT XMAS SPECIAL 3/5
I can't remember it's name but it was fun to watch. It had its moments. It was just nice that it was on, it felt like the older years when no-one had freeview and so everyone sat and watched Wallace & Gromit at Christmas :) I don't think this one was as good as Wrong Trousers by far, and not quite as good as a close shave, but it was definitely fun, and the love element for Gromit was a lovely touch. So well done Aardman! Hopefully next time there won't be any women, as with the original 2 films.

And that's about it, I can't remember what else I've watched, apart from that Eurovision song contest audition thing with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Graham Norton, and that is actually a good laugh! I plan to audition for BB10 in the next week, maybe even today - yes, I know, signing my life away, but I'm up for it :)

Til next time...take it easy!

Kinky!

Woop! There's speculation it's just military aircraft "celebrating" something & that the triangular formation is actually a standard military manouever. What do you think?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0nyPU4e7_Bo

My game is almost ready! 50 rendered backgrounds are complete, animations are complete now its just a few sequences and "look ats" to code but other than that...going very well :) I was hoping to release it tomorrow, but I don't think it'll be ready until Xmas eve now. Definitely before Xmas day tho! :P YAY. And it will be my first "medium length" full AGS game hehehe! Even if it does only have 2 puzzles ;) Ok, maybe it's a short game.

And YAY Murhpy's Salvage has been released! Have a go, sort out Wombat's problems! The game includes music by me! I didn't use a keyboard at all either, it's completely from my head. You'll never see it, but at least you know I'm making it :P I'm doing a disco the night after too, which will be fun. And alcoholic :p

I still can't afford Christmas presents for anyone, which sucks. Our tree is up and it's all sparkly like :) I watched The Jerk the other night for the second time in my life, and it continues to grow on me. I don't usually like Steve Martin & especially not when he's trying to be eccentric, but somehow his performance in The Jerk is spot on! The film is funny, witty - and although it looks dated, it some how feels just as relevant & funny today as it would've when it was released. The gags are somewhat timeless I assume. Definitely worth a watch!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079367/

Midi
In gaming news, I'm still awaiting the release of Murphy's Salvage, a little AGS game with some of my music in. I just hope it gets released this side of the New Year so I can then state I did manage 3 soundtracks this year :p
http://www.screen7.co.uk/music/midi/

I've applied to do music on the new Ace Quest game and Mills has given me some kind reassurance, but it's too early for him to have a clear picture of the music side, so he's not coming to any decisions about that for a while!
http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/

Mr Doak popped by my blog (thanks Mike) to say Fatman 2 continues! Just...well...I don't know. I need a list from you Mike, that's all!!!

Yahtzee continues to make Zero Punctuations but it appears he has nothing game wise in the works. I've emailed him a few times but not had a response, I guess he's too busy even to speak to me. BASTARD! Still, it's only a matter of time before he realises he needs to make one of his own games again. I assure you :)

Um, and I can't remember what else I'm working on. Oh yes I can. *fumble* I've just sent the guy a PM to say I can start work on it now that I've finished the Murphy's Salvage one. And of course there is the NEW Larry Vales game! But Phil is also still merely pondering over soundtrack matters too I think :)

Game
I am making a Christmas game which is a 1st person adventure for fun. It should be ready in a fortnight, just before Xmas eve. Only problem at the moment is, it's too bloody linear!!!

Matti is still working on the backgrounds for Dumbass Drivers! and I can't wait to see them complete! But there is no rush, so DD or DAD will be ready in 2009.

I have some catching up to do with the latest AGS releases which I hope to do over Christmas. I wonder how many other Xmas games are in the works?

Film
Watched 2 filming hasn't happened for a few weeks, my fault...illness, family meals...but this coming weekend I hope to get in one decent full day, and there are a LOT of exciting shots to do so I can't wait! We've permission to do some great stuff in the scrap-yard with a large grab...awesome! Under professional supervision, of course ;) The trailer however has been seen by bollox all people, so its here!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-mGk4AmF7m4

UFO Watch UK episode 4 is coming very soon, it's quite complete but not wholly. Episode 5 is going to be something quite special though :) It was planned to be the Xmas special but I really don't think I'm going to get time. So 4 will be average but 5 will hopefully match number 3's 2000 views :D

We've had some beautifully clear nights in the last week - thank Yahweh! It had been cloudy for literally a MONTH and a half, since October 14th!!! GRRR hehe. But I haven't SEEN any UFOs, even though I've been looking. I have, in the past, seen them in these cold months so I'm going to keep my eyez on the skyz :)

Web
I've updated the Screen 7 website in a couple of areas, but I haven't had the time or the money to finalise this years award stuff. The runners up will get their prize over Christmas time, and the trophy...well, the company moved off their premesis during its production - and I haven't had the time or money to find them again. Still, I'll just get another one made if I have too. Sorry for the delay to the winner...but try and go to Mittens, so you can recieve it in person!! ;p

End
That's it. I can't think of anything else even vaguely relevant. I'd like a cup of tea? Merry Christmas!

X-box adventures of a novice

Ok, not an awful lot to discuss today so I thought I would do a couple of reviews. Keep in mind that I'm an Xbox novice and I generally play games on Easy or Normal because I'm an adventure gamer at heart and worry more about progressing the story than I do wanting to blow away a thousand million bad guys.

Rainbow Six Vegas 7/10 - Status, un-finished, just passed Hell's Gate
I was dubious about what this game would be like when I saw the box but after getting to grips with the controls I absolutely love this game. The storyline is intriguing and there's a nice set of missions before you hit the Strip itself which was great. Being able to move your team around and make them storm in rooms and stuff is just brilliant - it's a lot of fun. As always though there comes a point where it's just more of the same, and frustration kicks in. It would have benefited from a few more checkpoints along the way, but I'm saying that cos I'm shit at FPS games. None the less, all the tricks, the graphics & the story make this a fantastic game to play. Highly recommended!

Gears of War 2 8/10 - Status, finished
I have had a go on the first game but I'm not allowed to play it in full yet because my friend wants to do the solo campaign first, hehe. None the less I WAS allowed to play the sequel and it's been a lot of fun. The controls & characters remain the same, but this time the aim is to reach the heart of the bad guys and take them out. There are a lot of twists and turns and the story is extremely engrossing. Sure, you have to blow away a lot of Locust alien things but this feels like a worthy battle. There are quite a few un-expected twists and turns which I thought were neat, as you hit points where you think "I know whats coming next" but it doesn't. Awesome game, with quite a few unique & interesting challenges besides running around on foot. Genuinly scary moments too, though I'm not convinced it is as scary as the first, afterall, where are the Beserkers? Where are those flying creature things? Maybe I have to complete the first game to find out why they aren't in the 2nd. Very definitely play this if you can. It's fantastic :D

That'll do for now :)

It doesn't deserve a title

Things is ares hotting up at AGS as a massive debate revolving around Nacho occurs & two blogs merge into one, and a game is "deleted" from the datbase by it's author. More news soon, but only if & when it's relevant.....and it never is :P

Hey dumbass, over here!

I've recently put my demo for Dumbass Drivers online, and have managed to find an artist who is helping to re-draw all the backgrounds into his lovely style for the full version, thank you Matti! You can play my demo with great voice acting by Grundislav here:
http://www.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php?topic=36028.0

In other news, WATCHED II has begun filming & will be my 2nd short film produced in 2008. The original film was shot 6 years ago so it's quite exciting to be pulling together the old crew, visit some old locations & shoot some NEW material! I hope to have it edited by Christmas, but Jan or Feb 2009 looks more possible.

Recently announced is a new LARRY VALES game and Phil has kindly asked me to contribute music, yay! I'm a tune or two away for finishing my latest MIDI score for MURPHY'S SALVAGE, a short AGS game that I expect will be out by the end of November 08! I've only done one soundtrack in MIDI this WHOLE year, which is a bit of a shame, but I've been going through a lot of personal issues this year and I couldn't focus strongly on music. But don't fret, NELLY COOTALOT 2 is in the midst!!! Though I haven't heard anything from the developer. I haven't heard any more about FATMAN 2. Still, a lot of sequels lined up, my pants are wet already!

Not much else to say I'm afraid! No new UFO's either :( But Grace told me about an alien light that travelled through her and two mates. INTRIGUING. Or just plain CRAZY? You decide :p

UFO Oct 21st 2008 - Holland

This superb video was captured in Holland.
